These vibrant pastels have a buttery, lipstick- like consistency that applies beautifully to clay. They stay true to color up to cone 10 and can be blended out to create a variety of textures and colors.
These pastels are intended to be applied to unfired or bisque fired clay. They can be used alone, as a wax resist, or accept clear glaze on top after firing. If using on a food-contact surface (e.g. the inside of a bowl), you must apply a cover glaze. Be sure to fire in a well ventilated kiln.
Firing temperature is dependent on the surface you are applying to and ranges from cone 06 for fully fired clay to cone 6-10 when applied to bisque fired stoneware. More detailed firing information is included in the package insert, but I recommend creating sample tiles to see exactly how the pastels work with your clay and firing setup.
As a new product, there’s lots of room for experimentation. Try applying to the top of matte glazes, layering additional pigment after firing, or using in combination with my pencils and firm crayons. Keep an eye on my social media for upcoming demos and examples.
